The Rt Hon Penny Mordaunt MP for Portsmouth North paid a visit to Ecomar Propulsion this week along with Maritime UK Solent’s Managing Director, Stuart Baker.
We were honoured to host them in the workshop and unveil the ground-breaking results of our recent R&D project which proves the technical and economic feasibility of achieving zero emission operations in offshore survey and research vessels (OSRVs).
The team have built a fully functioning 1MW hybrid battery and hydrogen inboard propulsion system demonstrator for a 46m windfarm support vessel, proving it is possible and can be built in the Solent.
Some useful discussions were had about the key challenges and barriers to achieving zero-emission propulsion and the next steps needed to accelerate progress in this area.
